FOTD: Hey Estee!

My Goodness…

Something interesting… no, GROUNDBREAKING has happened in makeup. Estee Lauder makeup (yes, Estee Lauder. Not one of the many companies it has absorbed) has joined the ranks of modern formulations and applications.

I’m happy (if a little shocked) to say that I have found a favorite at the counter formerly reserved for the… eh… more mature among us.

Look at what happened to me today:

The DoubleWear Light Foundation (5.0) is DIVINE. It goes on smooth and sets to a beautiful finish. And my foray into the formerly ancient world of Estee Lauder doesn’t stop there; that green shadow… ALSO FROM ESTEE LAUDER!

Even with the recent accolades by other MUA’s, I hesitated because Estee Lauder is not known to be particularly sympathetic to customers of color. All of the undertones are typically pink or go really ashy. This particular foundation defies that… featuring a distinct yellow undertone. I was sold after I tried on a bit and it set within seconds. It’s good stuff. I can see this becoming a daily favorite.

The rest…

Estee Lauder Doublewear Light Foundation (5.0)
Guerlain Meteorites
Ilamasqua Blush in Expose
NARS Eyeshadow in Etrusque
Estee Lauder Eyeshadow in Emerald Star
Guerlain Liquid Liner in #1
Estee Lauder Doublewear Eye Liner in Forest
Estee Lauder Sumptuous Mascara in Black
Chanel Lip Pencil in Nude
Chanel Lipstick in Patchouli

Oooh.. that looks lovely. Is it more of a tinted moisturizer or a light-medium coverage?I need to get around to a Lauder counter, but I find the local ones definitely do NOT cater to WOC.. so I'll keep an eye out next time I'm in Toronto. Thanks for the heads up! :]

  2. Candice says:

Really pretty! Could you PLEASE do a review on the Guerlain Meteorites?

  3. ShahadaKarim says:

Neptenthe, the DoubleWear Light is a light to medium coverage foundation. You can sheer it out for really light coverage, or maybe mix it with a little face moisturizer to make a tinted version. But it wears medium on me. Good coverage that looks a lot more like skin than makeup. The DW Light is the only one of that series that really matched me. The regular DoubleWear went ashy on me… so definitely try it on at the store (test the jawline) before you commit to it.Candice, I'll certainly do a review of Meteorites! Stay tuned!

  4. Raisa says:

How is your skin always so freakin flawless! I can't believe that Estee Lauder actually made something of quality that flatters brown skin. I may have to stop passing the counter by…

  5. ShahadaKarim says:

Awwww, thanks for the compliment! I understand about passing the counter by. I did it for YEARS. Apparently, some new beauty director is changing everything for the better. I found out that there is a 6.0 in the Doublewear light (I wear 5.0) but you may have to mail order it. Counters haven't been getting the color in.
