Product Review: Chanel Spring 2013

It’s not even Christmas, and already Chanel has put up the new Spring 2013 Collection. I call it a neutral flush, because most of the colors in this collection are fairly neutral, with a little flush from the blush in the collection, and several of the lipsticks.

All of the lippies were a pass for me. The glosses are shimmery in a way that I find unimpressive, and the lipsticks are a collection of nude bronze, peaches, and pinks that I found pass-worthy. What I DID like was the quad (despite its highly dupeable nature), the blush (must have), two of the eyeshadow pencils, and one of the lip pencils.

Oh, and the highlight. My Goodness… The Highlight is truly the Highlight of this collection.

First Impressions:
The Highlighter is divine. It’s a neutral golden color, that will work on a wide range of skin tones. The finish is amazing… just a subtle addition of golden light.
The quad is neutral, but the colors are so rich and gorgeous, and the matte brown is the best I’ve seen and used in a very long time. It’s not a must have, but it’s a lovely collection of colors and textures
The blush is perfect for spring. It’s a true matte peach, that will look more like apricot on warmer skin tones. It’s stronger than Espiegle and less pink than Malice.
The eye pencils are completely gorgeous. Or Rose is worth a backup. There is also a horrid lavender color, that calls to question Chanel’s judgement. It’s a bit juvenile in both color and texture, in my opinion.
The lip pencil is a nice staple piece. If you need one, get it.
Overall, the collection has a subtle and classic feeling to it. Fans of neutral tones and wearable shades will absolutely love it.

  1. I suspect that we won't get the nice formula on the quad up here in Canada, so I'll probably pass on that, but the other items look so lovely. I'm getting more and more intrigued by the blush, despite the fact that I started off thinking it wouldn't suit me…

  2. It's a very strong true peach Kate. If your skin tone doesn't support warm colors, this may be a skip for you. But the highlighter is neutral enough, I think.

beautiful and I had the same reaction to the lilac eyeliner was easy to skip that one. The blush looks so beautiful on your skin I am a B30 so I do not know if I can pull it off.@Kate: I do not normally like the other versions of the eyeshadow quad we get the same as you do here in Holland why that is I still do not understand, but they improved it here en it was much nicer that the older quads I got it and love it. Worth testing in the store to see if you got the better textures as well.

  6. Thank you Nawi. I believe you can find much stronger versions of a peach blush. Warmer skin tones look wonderful in Kevyn Aucoin's Mango (Fire) Blush or CARGO Laguna Blush.
