Brushing Up: Make Up For Ever Foundation Kabuki Brush

This thing is genius.

Make Up For Ever released this domed version of the Kabuki Brush to best suit the new Wet/Dry Foundation. I found it by chance while browsing Nigel’s Beauty Supply (I was on my way out and passed the display), and immediately fell in love.

This brush is so dense… and so soft… it’s perfect for foundation application. It picks up a ton of product (so use a light touch) and blends it out to a traceless finish.

This stunning little beauty retails for $48. You can find it exclusively (in terms of chain stores) at Sephora.

Yes! I LOVE this brush. I wasn't sure about it, but after reading reviews I took the plunge and purchased it. So glad I did!And you're right that it picks up a lot of product. Have you used it on wet products? If so, how do you like it?

I wanted this thing the second I saw it, but I have several brushes for powder foundation. Have you tried this with liquid foundation? If I can use it for both then I'd definitely buy it.

  3. I use it for liquid foundation. I LOVE it. You just use a very light touch, and it disperses a small amount of product over a large area.

  4. Yes Yes YES you can use this on liquid foundation! I don't wear powder foundation Shontay (tends to crease on my oily skin so I wouldn't get it for that. I absolutely love it. It buffs beautifully and it's SO SOFT. You're going to love it.

Ah, thanks. Now I need to get it. The first shipment sold out of my local Sephora quickly and I had a feeling that was a good sign. I go back and forth between liquid and powder and I don't want to pay so much for a brush that can only get it done with one type of product. On the list it goes!

  6. I'd never get it if it was just for powder. I need my stuff to multitask. LOL

Thank you for your response! So far, I've only used it with powder foundations. I need to learn not to be so heavy handed while using it, LOL!I'm gonna try using this with liquid foundations. I wonder if it would work with Kevin Aucoin's Skin Enhancer.

  8. I would not recommend it with the Kevyn Aucoin Foundation. That foundation is meant to be 'warmed' with the fingers before application. You can liquify it by adding a pin head sized dot to one pump of Hourglass Primer (that will convert it into a liquid foundation) and it can be applied with the brush that way. But alone, I'd recommend using a stiff foundation or concealer brush to pinpoint the parts of the face that need coverage, and warming it and spreading it from there.

Thank you! I will try the Make Up For Ever brush with liquid foundation to see how it comes out.BTW: I tried the Hourglass primer and the Skin Enhancer and it was so liquidy!!! I was surprised and it also applied beautifully. Thanks for that tip.

  10. You're so welcome. Isn't it amazing how the Hourglass Primer totally liquifies the Kevin Aucoin Skin Enhancer? But it loses none of the coverage. Amazing. I learned that trick from a good friend of mine who is ever experimenting with makeup. I do it every time I use the Kevyn Aucoin foundation. That way, I get the benefits of a primer (and SPF) and the coverage of the foundation.
