3… 2… 1… RESET

Okay, I’m getting my bearings. After the week from hell, I’ve decided to reset. So I’m on a much needed juice cleanse to alkalize and reset my body.

For me, that means dumping all manner of salt and sugars, and getting back to basics. That’s lots and lots and a whole damn LOT of greens. So I juiced Arugula (soooo gross), Kale, Napa Cabbage, Cucumber, Lemon, Green Apples and Ginger. The Arugula takes over everything. It’s just so spicy. But whatever. It must be done. Down the hatch it goes! I got enough for a five day cleanse (although I’m thinking of extending it to seven… just because), and I’m juicing for the day as I go. So far, it’s working out pretty well. I also did a version with Kale and Pineapple that’s really good. Helps temper that Arugula madness. Although it hurts to drink, I immediately feel energized and clearheaded. That’s reason enough to keep it coming.

I also juiced a delicious concoction of Pomegranate (those seeds are SO easy to juice. I’m ashamed to just be discovering this now), Pineapple, Lemon, Orange and Ginger. Perfect pick me up in the morning. I have to hide it from hubby though (he’s doing the cleanse with me) because he will think it’s dessert and drink it all.

I made two different ‘recovery’ drinks for protein. One is my favorite blend of Cashews, flax seed, almond milk, filtered water and dates. The other is bananas, cacao (raw/unsweeted), flax seed, almond milk and agave. The second one is really for hubby; I’m not a fan of chocolate like that. We drink those after workouts or for ‘dinner’ as needed.

The final drink I made was my first attempt with avocado, and it came out really good! It’s avocado, almond milk, agave and flax seed. I love that one. I think I’ll be doing that one a lot more often in the future. Even with the fat content… it’s excellent for the skin. Plus, it’s ‘good’ fat… so I think I’m okay. 😉

I’m on day 3 and I already feel so much better. My skin cleared up and I’m sleeping through the night. The reset was soooo necessary. I know there are a lot of juicing naysayers, but for me it really works. I need to do this more often (a 1-3 day cleanse is recommended once a month), because it should not take a meltdown to get me to shape up.

  1. I’ve been curious about the avocado addition to juices for a while, but just couldn’t come up with a combination that sounded appealing. Did you still taste avo or did it meld into the other flavors?

    Good for you for taking care of yourself and recognizing you needed to reset! It’s too easy to overlook sometimes.
